LOUIS CARNELL (live, UK)

The decision to close his reputed alias Visionist was for Louis Carnell the result of a process of self-discovery and actualisation of the subjectivity that now permeates a nascent body of work. Based in London, Carnell is one of the UK’s most elusive musicians, producers and curators, whose work shows a deep interest in the physical and digital environments in which we find ourselves. His use of sound, image, scenography and sculpture questions social structures and hierarchies, while penetrating through introspection into the problems of anxiety and the connotations of masculinity and race.

Their recent collaborative album, 111, released on Mute in April this year, emerged as a cycle of fifteen pieces with the aim of creating for the listener an environment that explores and questions our relationships and the production of communities. The list of fifteen contributors, one for each piece, is astonishingly varied: Keeley Forsyth, Lee Ranaldo, Ben Vince, Yara Asmar, Coby Sey, KMRU, Okkyung Lee, Wu-Lu, Green House, Daniel Miller, Laraaji, Marta De Pascalis, Leila, Nailah Hunter and Damsel Elysium. 111 has the character of a hopeful sound manifesto in a time of disintegration.
